Today, is the most auspicious day as it is the 552nd birth anniversary of Shri Guru Nanak Dev Ji, it is one of the most important festivals in Sikhism as Guru Nanak Dev Ji brought enlightenment to this world.

Festival is celebrated after Diwali on the occasion of Kartik Purnima, Guru Nanak Dev Ji was the founder of Sikhism he was born in 1469, may the teachings of the Guru reflect goodness and endless compassion in you and the glow of happiness and prosperity.

The celebrations usually commence with Prabhat Pheris the early morning processions that begin at the Gurudwaras and proceed around the localities singing hymns.

The day prior to the birthday celebration a procession, referred to as Nagakirtan, is organized and this procession is further led by the Panj Pyaras (five beloved ones), they head the procession carrying the Sikh flag, known as the Nishan Sahib and the Palki of Guru Granth Sahib.

There are brass bands playing different tunes and 'Gatka' teams display their swordsmanship through various martial arts and mock battles using traditional weapons, the procession is led on the streets of the town , the passage is covered with banners and gates are decorated with flowers and flags for this occasion the leaders spreading the message of Guru Nanak.

The celebrations are especially colorful and cheerful in Punjab, Haryana and Chandigarh and many more locations of Pakistan and England and a non- stop recitation of Shri Guru Granth Sahib, called the Akhand Path is held during the path, the holy book is recited from the beginning without any break throughout the day and night.
