Gudi Padwa Special Article

Wishing all the readers a very happy and prosperous Gudi Padwa!!
One of the most well known Maharashtrian festival Gudi Padwa, also known as Samvastar Vadyo is an auspicious festival celebrated on the first day of Chaitra month of the Hindu calendar.
Festival of Gudi Padwa signifies the arrival of spring and also coincides with the beginning of the New Year for Marathi's and Konkani Hindus, especially in the parts of Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, and Telangana.
Gudi Padwa witnesses dancing, street processions and tasty festival delicacies, people start the occasion with a customary oil bath, after this bath they decorate their house with Rangoli, it is made using flowers and colors.
As per the Hindu mythology, the term Gudi Padwa originates from two words 'Gudi' meaning flag or symbol of Lord Brahma and 'Padwa' implies the first day of the phase of the moon. Rabi crops are reaped after the celebration which symbolizes the arrival of spring season and Gudi reminds of victory.
According to many people, this day honors the coronation of Lord Rama after his return to Ayodhya, winning battle against Ravana the 'Gudi' is kept at the main entrance of the house or a window.
In South India, this festival is known as Ugadi and is also considered to be the first day of the creation of the universe, a Gudi is a flag made using a long bamboo shoot and a bright colorful silk scarf, the bamboo is covered with the same silk scarf and then it is decorated with neem leaves, mango leaves, and a garland of flowers. This bamboo shoot is then covered with an inverted vessel made out of silver/copper and this signifies victory of good over evil it is said that 'this ritual saves the households from all types of evils and negative energies.
Popular Dishes of Gudi Padwa-
Some of the popular main dishes prepared for this festival are - Kothimbir Vadi, Batata Vada, Sabudana Vada, Chakli, Poori Bhaji, Batata Bhaji and Masala Bhaat some of the mouth watering and self satisfying deserts are - Puran Poli, Kaju Modak, Coconut Ladoo, Shrikhand, Kesari Bhaat, Sweet Shakarpare, Banana Sheera and Basundi.
Many famous Bollywood celebs celebrated Gudi Padwa, Shraddha Kapoor was seen in traditional 'Nauvari' saree the actress shared some of her gorgeous pics on her Instagram handle many other celebrities like Amitabh Bachchan, Ajay Devgn, Akshay Kumar, Anupam Kher wished their fans a very Happy Gudi Padwa and Ugadi.

Ankita Lokhande, who is celebrating her first Gudi Padwa after her marriage shared a small video from the pooja ceremony with her husband Vicky Jain Ankita wrote "Let's celebrate this new year - Gudi Padwa - by thanksgiving each other and be grateful for every blessing you have. Do not hesitate to express your feelings and show love to your loved ones."
