International Tiger Day is celebrated every year on 29 July , to generate awareness regarding the declining population of the species .
Currently , the population of the tigers is restricted to just 7% and only 13 of them are isolated in forests and grasslands across 13 countries in the world .
The population of the National Animal of India has been affected by several factors like wildlife trade , human wildlife conflict , habitat loss , and fragmentation . According to World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) numbers of the Tiger in the world has dropped down by more than 95% over the last 150 years but , their conservation in history as per WWF has observed that their numbers are increasing .
Around the world , there are about 3,900 tigers and only 3,000 of wild tiger populations are in India we always regard tigers as the scariest and the deadliest type of animals but this is most important to save them .
Why Tigers are important ???
1. Tigers keep their environment healthy by maintaining a balance in the food chain .
2. Without enough tigers herbivores will overgraze and damage land which will disrupt the balance of the local environment .
3. The United States of America has held more tigers in captivity than they are out in the wild .
4. Tiger landscapes majorly overlap 9 watersheds , providing water for over 830 million people in Asia .
5 . From the world's largest mangrove forests in the Sunderbans , to the snowy mountains in the Northeast China and Russia , protecting wild tigers and their natural homes provides benefits for thousands of species and millions of people .
6 . The social significance of tigers can be seen in various cosmologies , faiths and folktales of almost all civilizations across India .
7. Forests protected for tigers in the Russian Far East can absorb 130,000 tonnes of carbon in a year which is equivalent to carbon emissions from 25,000 cars .
Left with just 5 % of the range where they used to roam , tigers are rapidly losing their homes due to deforestation , infrastructure , and other human disturbances , forcing them into rapidly diminishing pockets of nature .
