International Youth Day was celebrated in the year 1999, by the United Nations the special day was marked on a recommendation made by the World Conference of Ministers Responsible for Youth in Lisbon to the General Assembly.
Significance of International Youth Day :
Youth of today are fighting for acquiring basic amenities like health, education, and employment this day provides a platform for the youth to discuss relevant issues and also suggest plans for a better and brighter future.
On this day various activities are conducted like concerts, workshops, cultural events, and meetings organized by schools and other educational institutions to celebrate the power of youth.
Youth has the power to change everything Youth should be encouraged and motivated because "a young mind has the power to change the world with their ideas and innovations" .
The theme this year is "Transforming Food Systems: Youth Innovation for Human and Planetary Health" it was chosen by the United Nations after issues were highlighted at ECOSOC Youth Forum (EYF) 2021 .
The UN will commemorate this day virtually due to the pandemic in partnership with the Food and Agriculture Organization of the world body and major group of children and youth.
Security Council Resolution 2250 stated on Youth, Peace, and Security represents an unprecedented acknowledgement of the urgent need to engage young peace builders in promoting peace and countering extremism and clearly positions Youth as important partners in the global efforts.
Let's celebrate the power of youth on this day and lead our country towards a brighter and a better future.
