Lohri is one of the most popular winter folk festival which is celebrated primilarly in India, Lohri marks the end of winter, and is a traditional welcome of longer days and the sun's journey to the northern hemisphere by Hindus and Sikhs in the northern region of the Indian Sub- continent.

Lohri is an official holiday in Punjab, in the Jammu region of Jammu and Kashmir and also Himachal Pradesh, even Christians, Hindus, Sikhs and some Muslims observe the festival in rural Punjab and in the cities of Faisalabad and Lahore.

This particular festival is celebrated by lighting bonfires, eating festive food, dancing and collecting gifts, in houses that have recently a marriage or childbirth, Lohri celebrations reaches a higher pitch of excitement in people. Lohri celebrations are incomplete without Lohri songs, people wear their brightest clothes and come to dance on the bhangra beats and gidda, sarson da saag and makki di roti is usually served as a main course at a Lohri dinner.
