Jai Maharashtra!!
On 1st May 1960 state of Maharashtra came into existence, the state was created on linguistic basis after protests India was divided into several provinces and princely states at the time of Independence.
After the Britishers left our country, the work to reorganize the princely states and provinces into the Union of India began through the States Reorganization Act, 1956 the act proposed reorganization of states on the basis of languages spoken in that particular area. The Bombay State was established for those who spoke Marathi, Konkani, Gujrati, and Kutchi two distinct groups emerged one comprised of those who spoke Marathi and Konkani, while the other group included people speaking Gujrati and Kutchi they demanded for their own state in April 1960, Parliament passed the Bombay Reorganization Act for dividing the state.
Shivaji Park in Mumbai hosts a huge celebration and a parade, which is attended by prominent personalities people dress up in traditional attire to attend musical rallies and other cultural events across Maharashtra. Honorable Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi ji wished the people of Maharashtra on Maharashtra Day he also stated that the state has made phenomenal contributions to national progress, and has also excelled in diverse fields.
A flag is hoisted at the respective district headquarters in the presence of dignitaries as they commemorate the day with tributes to the martyrs on this day, personalities from various backgrounds like sportspersons, police officials, and doctors are rewarded in recognition of this notable service to the state.
Celebrations by the people of Maharashtra, with Lavani performances , narration of poems written by Marathi saints, while the processions are held across the state the State government and several private companies take the opportunity to inaugurate and launch new projects and schemes on Maharashtra Day incidentally, this day is also celebrated as 'International Labor Day' which is observed since the 19th century.
Jawaharlal Nehru, Yashwantrao Chavan and Sri Prakasa unveiling a map of the new state of Maharashtra at Rajbhavan, Mumbai, on 1 May 1960 the name Maharashtra was first mentioned by a Chinese traveler Huan Tsang this name is derived from Maha- great, and Rakshtrika - Ratta, the tribe/ dynasty of pretty chiefs that ruled the Deccan Region.
