World Food day is celebrated to mark the anniversary of the FAO (Food and Agricultural Organization) this day is celebrated to fight against hunger and also ensuring that people consume healthy diets.
World Food Day was established in November 1979, as suggested by former Hungarian minster of agriculture and food Dr. Pal Romany, it gradually became the day to raise awareness about hunger, malnutrition, sustainability and food production.
As per Food and Agricultural Organization today's agri-food systems are exposed to inequalities and injustices, at least 2 billion people do not have regular excess to sufficient amount of safe, nutritious food , while 3 billion cannot afford healthy diets and obesity is increasing worldwide.
It is further said that vast quantities of food are lost even when millions of people go hungry every single day, the food is either spoiled during production or transportation or thrown into waste bins by households, retailers and another matter of concern is generation of green house gases like methane produced by food waste which is filling up the land fills.
FAO said that to fix this, collective action is needed so that each and everyone has enough safe and nutritious food to eat, and the entire food supply chain remains more sustainable, resilient and inclusive.
The FAO said that the Covid - 19 pandemic has induced as an economic recession that could add up to 100 million or more to the 690 million people already suffering from huger. Starvation is a massive problem in a number of countries, and we need to do more to raise awareness about this problem.
Imagine if you do not consume proper amount of food daily and you are asked to perform multi - tasking functions will you be able to do it??
Answer is straight and simple that without food and energy no one can work we all need proper amount of energy for our body to function properly , many people are not fortunate enough to eat nutritious food but we are blessed that we are consuming nutritious food daily and we do not care about it we simply waste it.
In many countries like Kenya the price of basic food has skyrocketed which has significantly resulted in a large number of people going hungry . In United States the lowa Hunger Summit is held on World Food Day since 2007, whereas in Cuba, the media strongly supports awareness on various campaigns relating to World Food Day, and an agricultural fair is held so that producers can exchange their experiences and views.
In Mongolia, they have made a tradition to organize the Food Security conference on this date, this event is about promoting research to develop regulations and policies, as well as valuing contributions of researchers and scholars involved in country's food security.
In the Philippines, the government focuses on increasing food gifts to urban and poor families, over 150 countries events mark World Food Day globally this day also highlights a particular section of the society across the globe.
