The International Day of Peace, also known as World Peace Day is celebrated around the world to strengthen the ideals of peace, through observing 24 hours of non- violence and cease fire.
This day promotes global solidarity for building a peaceful and sustainable world, The United Nations Security Council, in February 2021, passed a resolution calling for Member States to support a "sustained humanitarian pause" to local conflicts.
This year, the theme of International Day of Peace is "Recovering better for an equitable and sustainable world" it focuses on how to help everyone recover better, how to build resilience, and how to transform our world into a place that is more equal, more just, equitable, inclusive, sustainable and healthier.
United Nations General Assembly, in 1981, established the third Tuesday of September, the opening day of the regular sessions of the General Assembly, as International Day of Peace.
Later, in 2001 General Assembly declared 21st September as International Day of Peace new forces of division has emerged, spreading hatred and intolerance.
Terrorism is fueling violence among the Nations, while on the other hand, violent extremism seek to poison the minds of the vulnerable sections of the society and also polluting the young minds.
In the poorest and least - developed parts of the world, the climate-related natural disasters are compounding existing fragility, increasing forced migration and heightening the risk of violence.
There are many barriers to peace which are complex and steep these barriers have to solved together doing so requires new forms of solidarity and joint action, which can help us achieve peace goals together.
Change is racing across the world, our goal must be to embrace it on the basis of human rights, to shape it into positive directions, to craft a future that is more inclusive, and sustainable.
The culture of peace, is a culture of dialogue and prevention, the role of United Nations has never been so vital the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development affairs are that "there can be no sustainable development without peace and no peace without sustainable development."
The same spirit underpins the Security Council and the General Assembly resolutions in 2016 on 'sustaining peace' on this International Day of Peace, we must all renew our commitment to global solidarity we must build it every day, in every society, with every women and man, by working together towards a better common future.
From Education to the arts, social justice to sports, health to the environment, neighborhood issues to services for others, there are many ways to participate, in Peace Day!
Peace is possible throughout history, most societies have lived in peace most of the time life is better in a world where peace exists and we will look to those who are peace keepers to learn individually and make world a better place to live in.
Peace is not a one day process but a daily, weekly and a monthly process.
Let's pledge to achieve a cleaner and greener environment let's achieve together sustainability, peace is the most basic and starting point of advancement of humanity.
