ASHADI EKADASHI SPECIAL BLOG

Shayani Ekadashi , Maha Ekadashi , Prathama Ekadashi , Padma Ekadashi , Devshayani Ekadashi or Devpodhi Ekadashi is the eleventh lunar day of the bright fortnight (Shukla Paksha ) of the Hindu Month ( June - July ) it also known as Toli Ekadashi in Telugu . This holy day is of special significance to vaishnavas followers of Lord Vishnu .
Pandharpur Waari Yatra :
A huge religious procession of pilgrims known as Pandharpur Ashadi Ekadashi Waari Yatra culminates at Pandharpur , in Solapur district in South Maharashtra , situated on the banks of Chandrabhaga River .
Pandharpur is the main center for worship of the deity Vitthala , a form of Vishnu himself lakhs of pilgrims come to Pandharpur from different parts of Maharashtra some devotees carry Palkhis ( palanquins ) with the images of saints of Maharashtra . Dyaneshwar's image is carried from Alandi , Namdev's image is carried from Narsi Namdev , Tukaram's from Dehu , Eknath's from Paithan , Muktabai's from Muktainagar , Sopan's from Sasavad and Saint Gajanan Maharaj from Shegaon . Such forms of pilgrims are referred to as Warkaris . They sing Abhangans ( chanting hymns ) of Saint Tukaram and Saint Dyaneshwar , dedicated to Vitthala .
Significance of this Ekadashi :
As per Hindu Scriptures , Lord Vishnu goes to sleep for four months on this day it also marks the beginning of Chaturmas , a holy period of four months in the Hindu calendar that finally concludes on Prabhodini Ekadashi . Ashadhi Ekadashi is a prominent festival of the Wakari community , predominantly found in Maharashtra .
